Our evenness in the second half of the season has been good. I think we have a fair few young ones and they are still in the improving stage

After finishing on top of the ladder, Civic suffered a surprise loss before bouncing back in the preliminary final to defeat Rutherglen.
Skips Scott Widdison, Max Scanlan, Dawn Hayman and Tom Webb have enjoyed solid seasons and will come up against Ray Irvine, Les Spencer, Gary Sanders and Jim Lefevre.
Corowa Civic spokesman Col Hendren expects a tough tussle.
“They have had a good year with all their skips pretty well performed,” Hendren said.
“Hopefully we can turn around the semi-final result.
“Our evenness in the second half of the season has been good.
“I think we have a fair few young ones and they are still in the improving stage.”
Civic’s young brigade is led by Webb, Ryan Davies, Dawn Hayman, Tom Hynes, Danny Webb and Scott Widdison.
“It’s a very young side,” he said.
“We would be by far the youngest A1 side without any shadow of a doubt.
“It’s just one of those flukes.”
Although YMGCR ran out comfortable winners at Wodonga last weekend, Civic won 92-87 earlier in the season before their next match was abandoned due to the heat rule.
Irvine said YMGCR had continued to build momentum since defeating Wodonga in the final round of the season to grab second spot on the ladder and the double chance.
“We have just gradually gained momentum as the season has gone on,” Irvine said.
“We started off slowly and since Christmas we have clicked together and got the combinations of the sides right.
“The momentum has kept going.”
Lefevre will have plenty of family support in his rink playing alongside his father, Andy, and grandfather, John.
Graeme Patterson is the other member of the side.
“They are all going really well and had a super win a couple of weeks ago,” Irvine said.
“John is in his mid-80s and is going fantastic.
“You don’t see three members of the family in the one rink too often.”
Corowa Civic and YMGCR have added incentive to win as they have endured long premiership droughts.
Civic last tasted success nine years ago while YMGCR’s run of outs goes back 30 years.
Saturday’s grand final draw is:
A1: YMGCR v Corowa Civic

B1: St James v Tungamah
