Captain Kent Braden’s father played in the Colts’ last premiership side way back in 1986-87.
He hopes he can now follow in his footsteps after more than 15 years of trying at A grade level.
“We’ve done all of the work, but that doesn’t matter because we’ve got to turn up over the weekend and get the job done,” Braden said.
“I wouldn’t say it would be a wasted season, but it will be an opportunity lost if we can’t get the job done.
“The only game they lost was to us earlier in the year, so we’ve both been in really good form and are capable of playing really good cricket.”
Braden expects the Colts to be unchanged from last weekend’s semi-final against Rovers United-Bruck.
Beechworth captain Brenton Surrey said it’s a credit to his side to hang in and outlast nine other teams to make the grand final.
The Wanderers had close victories against Benalla Bushrangers and Yarrawonga-Mulwala, while the Colts breezed past Greta and Rovers United to reach the final.
“To have a couple of hard-fought weeks is certainly a good thing,” Surrey said.
“It probably just proves the type of cricket City Colts are playing that they’re winning easy and they finished on top for a reason.
“We’ve just got to make sure everyone is contributing and we’ll give ourselves a chance because if we’re relying on one or two players, there’s a fair chance we won’t win.”
