Justin Godfrey and Glen Jarvis have made the team of 16 para-athletes to represent the nation at the World Para-Triathlon Series (WPS) event held on the Gold Coast on April 8.
The event is one of the three highest level races in the international para-triathlon calendar and is a qualifying race for the World Para-Triathlon Championships in the Netherlands in September.
Jarvis is currently ranked 14th in the world in the PTS2 male class, while Godfrey is 13th in the world in the PTS4 male class.
Godfrey, a below knee amputee athlete, won his PTS4 class at the Oceania Championships in Devonport, while Jarvis finished second in the PTS2 class.
The pair’s long-term mentor Fabrizio Andreoni has been also nominated for the Gold Coast event as the Triathlon Australia Para-Triathlon team coach.
Andreoni will also pair as handler with wheelchair para-triathlete Nige Young in the open event.
“The athletes had a few days off from formal training and are now are back in full motion to prepare at their best for the Gold Coast event where they will race against the best para-triathletes in the world,” Andreoni said.
“A typical weekly schedule includes two pool swims, two open water swims, three running sessions, two bike rides and off-bike running sessions and a multi-sport race simulation session.”
