The Yackandandah ruckman made a surprise appearance for the reigning premiers in a practice match against Heidelberg a fortnight ago, where he impressed in the 56-point victory.
A clearance was lodged for McEwan on the day of the match, March 18, but was denied, just hours after another Tiger ruck option Will Haberecht went down with a serious knee injury in a reserves game.
Yackandandah welcomed back former ruckman James Bannister last week after a stint at Bullioh, which could be in readiness for a possible switch by McEwan to the Ovens and Murray.
The Roos have remained firm on their stance with the key man.
“He’s a required player and he’s contracted,” Yackandandah co-coach Jay Dale said.
McEwan was one of the premier big-men in the Tallangatta and District league last season.
