Fresh from making a triumphant return to the Socceroos' starting 11 against the UAE on Tuesday, when his corners led to Australia's two goals, Troisi is also attracting attention on other fronts.

On Thursday morning, just as he linked back with his Victory teammates - sore and stiff, he admitted, after working hard in the World Cup qualifying win - his recent good form was recognised again when the PFA nominated him as a contender for player of the month in March.

But the hottest question around Troisi is his immediate playing future, and whether he will stay at Victory when his contract is up at the end of the season.

The player himself has remained guarded, but has let it be known that he is looking for a significant pay upgrade and for marquee status, particularly now that Victory have offloaded former marquee man Oliver Bozanic to Japan.

Will Troisi be tempted by offers from interested A-League clubs or could he look overseas as he has done before with mixed results?

Troisi has made it clear he will be "happy to stay in Melbourne" but only if the deal is right. At 28, he is at the peak of his powers and this is his best chance to land a sizeable contract that could secure his financial future.

Are Victory - who can afford a big deal better than most other clubs - prepared to come to the table or will they feel they might be able to get more bang for their buck if they are going to have to spend a large amount to get Troisi? Or will they reason that he is worth splashing out on because he is a proven commodity whom they know works well with the team?

All sides are reluctant to reveal too many details in the talks, but Victory has made it clear they would like to keep a man who has become a crucial part of their attack this season. But club management have yet to table him an offer.

It is a crucial decision for a player who readily admits that it is his time with Victory that has allowed him to get back into national team recognition after a period in the wilderness.

"That was one of the main reasons for coming back, I know what I am getting, I am comfortable here, I get looked after, and I am playing some of my best football," he said on Thursday.

"I have been working very hard. The first game of the season (when he sustained a shoulder injury) was a bit of a setback, but I worked hard to get back, and I am feeling really fit and strong and am playing some good football."

But as Troisi has shown so often in his peripatetic past, things are rarely straightforward.

He is looking forward to re-acquainting himself with his teammates on Sunday when Victory hosts Wellington Phoenix which, despite a morale boosting 5-0 win last weekend, has only the merest sniff of a finals chance.

Troisi missed the narrow loss in Brisbane last weekend because he was away with the Socceroos, while Marco Rojas and Jai Ingham were off with New Zealand and Besart Berisha away in Europe playing for Kosovo. All three are back.

"We don't play until Sunday so there is plenty of time to recover," Troisi said.

Victory cannot finish anywhere other than second on the table, but the Socceroo forward does not believe there will be any complacency.

"We want our best form running into the play-offs, so if anything these games are more important than the others," he said.

"Wellington do have a chance mathematically to get into the play offs. It's going to be a tough game, they are going to be up for it. But we want to keep hitting our stride leading into the play-offs."
