Goalkeeper Brogan Broadway said it will force the side to find more consistency this year, something it has lacked in the past few seasons.
A strong pre-season saw City dominate the Angela Iannotta Cup and set it up for a strong campaign.
“It has really let us gel a lot better, it’s probably the best (pre-season) we’ve had in years,” Broadway said.
City take on Cobram away on Sunday – a side it didn’t have the best record against last season.
Cobram’s Steven Cigana said it has taken the women’s side a little longer than usual to settle into the season.
“We didn’t get together until late in the year and didn’t get a great deal of practice matches in because of everyone’s schedule,” Cigana said.
“All we want to do is still be competitive and we believe we’re still a top four team.”
City, Boomers and Albury United are all two from two.
