In the absence of starting point guard Steph Gorman, the Lady Bandits went down by 16 – but coach Jim Wilson said the positives would outweigh the negatives.
“I was very happy with how the two imports played (Toccara Ross and Adijat Adams), they showed straight away that they would be quality additions,” he said.
“Missing Steph hurt us a little bit, and this week we'll be without Mel (Kirby).
“We've just got to hang on and try and snag a win or two before the full group is together.”
Perhaps the biggest positive was young forward Olivia Barber's impressive performance.
The 15-year-old was a surprise packet, scoring eight points and four rebounds in 25 minutes.
“It was pleasing to give those young players big minutes,” Wilson said.
“We'll be sticking to our guns when it comes to developing those players.”
Gorman will take her place in the line-up this week.
The Lady Bandits will take on the Sandringham Sabres at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre from 6pm on Saturday night.
It was pleasing to give those young players big minutes...we'll stick to our guns with them.
