Mitchell leads with 495.6 points from David Rixon on 468 points.
Sam Webb is in third place on 462 points.
The festival has been running for the past three days and reaches a crescendo with the finals at the Corryong Recreation Reserve.
The final two events are the brumby catch and buckjump.
The leading female rider is Queenslander Emma O’Shea, who is aiming to become the first woman competitor to win four successive titles.
She finished on the same points as John Mitchell and her nearest rival is Carlie Venables on 422.8 points.
Larissa Pearsal rounds out the top-three on 404.2.
The penultimate section of the challenge was the cross-country held on Saturday afternoon.
The top-10 announcement was made during the rodeo on Saturday night.
