Northern Victoria MLA Jaclyn Symes announced this week funding to be handed out as part of the state government’s community shade grants program.
Recipients included Wodonga Council and 3rd Wodonga Scout Group, with $45,455 each to build permanent shade.
Rutherglen Corowa Football Netball Club was also granted $15,350 for a permanent fixture and the 1st Yarrunga Scout Group $3163 for portable shade.
“Skin cancer is a major health issue for Victorians, yet it’s mostly preventable, that’s why the people of Northern Victoria need to be sun smart,” Ms Symes said.
“Spending time outdoors is part of a healthy lifestyle, and it is important shade is easily available where people come together.”
