Skills, knowledge and experience equates to job opportunities, according to the team at Thurgoona Training Academy.
The academy offers qualifications comprising of Certificates, Statements of Attainment and Tickets of Proficiency.
Thurgoona Training Academy chief executive officer Paul Jones said depending on the skills path people chose, these qualifications could be achieved for a one-day to a five-day course, through to a full qualification in Certificate 2 or 4 delivered over a 12-month period.
“As an employer I am often asked ‘what do we look for when we’re looking to hire an applicant for a position at Thurgoona Training Academy’,” he said.
“If someone wants to work in the construction industry, they will require as a minimum a White Card Ticket. For Working at Heights, they will require a Heights Ticket and someone working in Child Care will require a First Aid Certificate. These are just some examples.”
Apart from the skills, knowledge and experience, Mr Jones said someone who presented themselves well, was enthusiastic and with a good personality were also important attributes.
“In other words, it’s not just about what they can get from the job, but it’s also about what they can offer us if we employ them,” Mr Jones said.
“As a Registered Training Organisation our core business is to provide our clients/learners with Nationally Recognised Training courses that are compliant with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA), relevant Legislation and Australian Standards.
“Being able to experience emergency situations in a controlled, safe environment provides learners with the necessary knowledge and skills which can make the difference between preventing a disaster and experiencing a tragedy.”
