The Rock Yerong Creek premiership batsman Steve Jolliffe will join ex-Wodonga Raider Darren Petersen at the top of the order, while paceman Steve McLennan has been named captain.
“He’s just an on-the-spot bowler, which is what you need in this form of cricket,” coach Nick McDonald said.
McLennan captained the club’s second grade team.
The Phoenix boasts some of the association’s best youngsters, including classy batsman Liam Fitzsimmons, but has added the experienced opening duo to blunt the opposition attack.
“That was our biggest downfall, we were one or two or three for not many in the first 10 overs,” McDonald said.
Interestingly, New City is not looking to field an overseas player.
“The last couple we’ve had, the value hasn’t been there,” McDonald said.
