The Saints overcame a 39-point half-time deficit to run out 10.15 (75) to 6.11 (47) winners.

Lavington kept Myrtleford goalless until the 17-minute mark of the third quarter, but kicked just three behinds in the second half as the Saints piled on 10 unanswered goals to storm to victory. 

Myrtleford veteran Brad Murray said it was right up there with some of the better wins of his career.

“Just with the character of the boys to be able to stand up and respond to a first half where we were pretty average and to not kick a goal against Lavington, who are a formidable side, and to come and have a win like that is fantastic,” Murray said.

“Obviously it was a game of two halves, they were all over us.

“I thought in the second quarter we started to show signs, but couldn’t hit the scoreboard.

“Credit to this young team, they just got a bit of belief and I think it sparked us a bit because we’ve been flat the first few weeks.

“I’m really excited, it was a great win.”

Murray admitted the side got a fair spray from coach Leigh Corcoran at the main break, but it clearly worked.

“We just needed to get in on the footy because we were getting beaten to the footy and getting outworked,” Murray said.

“The boys come out and did it, showed a bit of ticker and dug deep and we got some momentum and were able to keep it going.”

After losses to Yarrawonga and Wodonga Raiders in the opening two weeks, last weekend’s victory against North Albury combined with a brilliant performance against the Panthers has got Myrtleford’s season back on the right track going into next weekend’s bye.
