Desperate to play finals after breaking through in 2014, the Roos held off Wangaratta Rovers, 34-30.
“Four games in, so it was great to get a win on the board,” coach Georgie Bruce said.
“We eventually got the reward for training hard and we’ve had a long pre-season, so things are starting to fall into place.”
After an even first term, the Roos blitzed the home side in the second quarter, racking up 13 goals to three to jump to a nine-goal break.
But the Roos were then restricted to only four goals in the third stanza.
However, they held out the Hawks with a teenager starring.
“Ella Kingston played in the under 16s last year and she started in our centre court,” Bruce said.
“She played centre, then wing defence for two quarters and starred, winning our club award.
Ella Kingston played in the under 16s last year and she started in our centre court ... we’ve been all about development in the last two years, so we couldn’t be happier with the future of where our club’s heading.

“We also had two juniors step up and debut for us in the A grade, which is fantastic.
“We’ve been all about development in the last two years, so we couldn’t be happier with the future of where our club’s heading.”
The Roos were forced to add new players to the all-important mid-court after a number left, and there’s no doubt Bruce’s enthusiasm and experience is having a positive affect on her team-mates.
Sophie Hanrahan shot at a superb 90 per cent, firing 27 goals.
Caitlyn Cose top-scored with 14 for the Hawks, while Shani Rickard and Ashlee Martin were the home team’s best.
And Lavington has maintained its unbeaten start.
The Panthers toppled Myrtleford, 54-26.
Alison Meani scored half of the home side’s goals, while Sarah Senini chipped in with 18.
Eden Broz posted 12 goals for the Saints, while Emma Botter snared 11.
The Panthers jumped the Saints early, racing to a 10-goal lead.
Lavington added another 15 in the second stanza to set up the comfortable victory.
Maddy Lloyd and Ainslee O’Connell starred for the Panthers, while Chloe Breen and Bridget Flint-Chapman were the Saints’ best.
The Saints will now meet Wodonga, while Lavington faces Rovers on May 6.
