Tim Fischer will continue to push for the promotion of General Sir John Monash to the rank of Field Marshal despite a curve-ball from the Defence Department.

Mr Fischer said there was considerable backing for the move after News Corp reported on Sunday Defence Personnel Minister Dan Tehan has recommended Monash should not get the posthumous promotion.
“Sir John Monash was our greatest Citizen General, he helped turn the tide on the Western Front especially in 1918 and later in the Great Depression declined to lead a coup here,” he said.
“Ahead of Anzac Day, the momentum is building for the Jerilderie proposition.
“Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg has come out with his support … it’s long overdue.”
