Only months after returning to the sport following a shoulder reconstruction, Grills dominated in Australia’s 3-0 series victory at Warwick, Queensland.
“I was very surprised,” Grills, 24, said.
“I was just really happy to be there after my start to the year when I fell off a horse and did my AC joint in January.”
Australia defeated World Cup champions South Africa by 11, 16 and six goals in the three Test matches.
“I was a surprising result,” she said.
“I thought it would be closer.”
Fellow Border players Jim and Charlie Grills, Matt Davison and Katie Wills played in winning NSW sides.
Jim was named best player and Davison took out best horse rider.
The World Cup will be held at Warwick in 2019.
