Firefighters were called to the blaze about 3.20am on Tuesday after someone set the white Hyundai Excel alight.
The vehicle, which had no number plates, was destroyed.
Detective Acting Sergeant Justin Foots said it was likely those involved knew the victim.
“The car is quite badly burnt,” he said.
“People don’t need to be concerned that their cars are going to be burnt.
“It appears to be a targeted attack.
“We don’t believe it’s a random attack, it’s likely the parties are known to each other.”
Sherry Bartle, who lives in the house and had planned to buy the vehicle, said she was keen to leave the area after the incident.
“I’m keen to move from this whole town really,” she said.
“I don’t want to live here any more.”
