Police caught seven drink drivers and six drug drivers in Wodonga, plus nine drink drivers and eight drug drivers in Wangaratta during Operation Nexus, which ran from April 13 to 26.
Another 248 drivers were fined for speeding as highway patrol officers targeted the main and back roads over the busy holiday period.
Across the border, Albury highway patrol Sergeant Daniel Finch said police were happy overall with driver behaviour, especially considering the wet conditions.
“There were no major incidents – we had a number of PCA offences, generally of a minor nature, over the period but with Anzac Day in particular, we were very happy,” he said.
“Even though the operation is finished, we continue to focus on road safety and we urge people when the road is wet, to slow down and drive to the conditions.”
