Indi MP Cathy McGowan welcomed Mr Fook Seng at a function at North East Water in Wodonga on Thursday evening where the company planned to share stories of its work to improve the environmental impact and finances by using solar energy.
The High Commissioner was formerly an ambassador with the Singapore government, involved in negotiating international renewable energy agreements.
“He’s really interested in community approaches to renewable energy,” Ms McGowan said.
“This is an extraordinary opportunity for building relationships between Indi and Singapore, which is renowned for innovation in renewable energy.”
She said the tour of the North East would continue on Friday when Mr Fook Seng headed to Mount Buffalo and was told about an Australia-first partnership involving a community solar energy grid between Totally Renewable Yackandandah and Ausnet Services, a company part-owned in Singapore.
“People in North East Victoria are concerned about climate change and are stepping up to develop local solutions to tackle the problem,” Ms McGowan said.
