John and Marie van Lint will light up more than 170 bonsai trees at their Urana Road home on Saturday night.
Mr van Lint said he had about 150 large bonsai and a miniature collection.
“One of the highlights is an Irish Strawberry Tree that is covered in fruit in a cascading style,” he said.
“It’s one of the smaller bonsai; it’s 50 centimetres in width and 20-plus years old.”
Mr van Lint said they hosted the first Bonsai Under Lights event in 2015 and again in 2016 after he was inspired by a visit to Gardens By The Bay in Singapore.
“They used light and music in the gardens and it felt like Alice in Wonderland,” Mr van Lint said.
“I thought the concept could be applied to bonsai too.”
Mr van Lint began learning the craft of bonsai trees in the late 1960s and has since trained with Japanese bonsai masters.
He holds workshops at his Lavington property.
“I’ll be running workshops again at the end of May and in June,” he said.
Meditative music will feature at the twilight bonsai display, which will raise money for the Murray Conservatorium Choir scholarship fund.
Marie van Lint’s botanical artworks will be on display at the premises.
Bonsai Under Lights, which opens from 7pm, will be at Valibo Nurseries, 534 Urana Road, Lavington, next to Barney's Rubble.
Entry fee is $5.
