The Magpies, who last tasted victory against Bullioh in round 15, 2015, were the better team from the outset with coach Craig Bosley praising his young side’s endeavour.

 “The boys were pretty happy,” Bosley said.

“We have a really young side with a couple of 15 and 16-year-olds.

“The kids are starting to go well.

“They had a real crack.”

Border-Walwa midfielder Daniel Leeworthy was strong at the stoppages, Ben McCarthy restricted the output of Tumbarumba’s Tom Bennett and promising youngster Max Houston finished the match strongly.

The Magpies could have won by more had it not been for average goalkicking.

“We kicked 14.22 which is a bit disappointing,” Bosley said.

“We’ll work on that ahead of our Cudgewa game.”

 Bullioh stamped itself as a genuine premiership contender by defeating Corryong at Corryong.

The Bulldogs ran-out 20-point victors with Jake Fisher-Curnow and Zac Burhop playing important roles.

Cudgewa defeated Federal by 27 points.

The Blues opened up a handy buffer in the second term with Mitch Pynappels, Aaron Monk, James McInerney, Jesse McInerney and Luke Bloom prominent.

Federal tried to peg back the deficit through Cameron Tyrell and Daniel Hales but fell well short.
