It’s the third time this season the Wanderers have led a match and not walked away with the three points.
Twin City hit the front early in the second half when Phil Tester capped off a good piece of lead-up play from Jarrod Murphy and Aaron Williams.
Cobram came out of its shell after falling behind and created numerous opportunities, before Bill Puckett found the equaliser in the 75 minute.
We just can’t seem to find a win, we’ve had three games now where we’ve been in front and coughed it up towards the end. It’s been a bit unlucky, but we’re not losing games.
- Cayne Wilhelm
Wanderers’ goalkeeper Daniel Grubisa was put the test on several occasions in the final 20 minutes, but held firm with a number of brilliant saves to keep the scores locked at 1-1 at full time.
Twin City coach Cayne Wilhelm admitted his side was probably lucky in the end to share the points.
“We knew it was going to come after we went 1-0 up, they weren’t going to sit back, everyone is playing to win,” Wilhelm said.
“We just can’t seem to find a win, we’ve had three games now where we’ve been in front and coughed it up towards the end.
“It’s been a bit unlucky, but we’re not losing games.”
Callum Speirs and Jason Bowe were the standouts for the Wanderers.
Wilhelm added that he isn’t worried about finishing top of the league.
“As long as you’re in the top eight, your side is fit and you’re playing well towards the end of the season, you’re a chance,” he said.
“If you look at last year, Cobram finished on top and went out first round, so it’s just about who is in the right form at the right time.”
Cobram coach Adam Gatcum, who missed the clash after being handed a three-game suspension for a late tackle against Boomers last round, said the result was deserved.
“It was a game of two halves really, the first half we weren’t at the races, but the second half we came out of the blocks quick, got tight and it was quite effective,” Gatcum said.
“We had a couple of chances, but it was one of those days where it just wouldn’t go in.”
Gatcum was pleased with the efforts of Josh Koopman and Aaron Feldtmann.
“We were really good in patches, today we played good football for maybe 20 minutes, but if you’re going to win matches, you’ve got to play consistently for larger periods of the game,” he said.
“The last two games have been two good points to take, but if we want to finish near the top of the table, we’ve got to start turning those draws into wins.”
Cobram and Twin City stay locked on the table on eight points apiece.
The Roar face another tricky road trip to the Border next weekend against Melrose, while the Wanderers host Wodonga Heart.
