A Russian naval intelligence ship has sunk off Turkey's Black Sea coast after colliding with a local vessel carrying livestock, was the report. Tug boats and rescue craft saved 78 people on board but amazingly no mention was made of the livestock.

If a similar maritime collision occurred in Australian waters, the focus would have been equally on the loss of life of people and animals. No, not one scintilla of a mention did the Turkish livestock manage. Imagine the furore in Australia, there would be calls for a Royal Commission and loopy statements about cattle and ships.

Plaudits to Woolworths, with the help of others, for retailing freshly cooked hot beef in a bag similar to chicken. Roast and corned beef are offered at around $18 a kilogram. Just the shot for the busy housekeeper and waste would be at a minimum. Surely someone will take up the cudgel for roast pork and lamb in a bag sounds great.
