Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days of trade for many restaurants and cafes with dozens of eateries booked out weeks ahead.
In another growing institution, the Albury Wodonga Mother’s Day Classic has gained popularity over 10 years on the Border.
Now in its 20th year nationally, the fundraising event offers a 5-kilometre run or walk at Sumsion Gardens in Wodonga on Sunday from 10am.
A spokesman for the organisers, Rotary Club of Wodonga Central, Glenn Mackinnon said they expected at least 500 people to join the event this year.
“Numbers were down last year but we had very heavy rain,” he said.
“After a couple of wet years the forecast is fine for Sunday.”
Mr Mackinnon said the Border event would raise between $15,000 and $20,000 for breast cancer research in Australia this year.
“It’s a great day for the whole family with face-painting for the kids and a flash dance mob,” he said.
Event registrations open on Sunday from 8am to 9.30am.
Albury’s Geoffrey Michael Patissier booked out weeks ago for three sittings of high tea in the Dean Street salon on Sunday.
Owner Geoffrey Michael said Border diners embraced the high tea ritual for special celebrations.
“The ladies especially love the high tea,” he said.
“It’s a chance to enjoy some bubbles and have some laughs with family and friends.”
Geoffrey Michael Patissier also offers takeaway high tea, which comprises 11 handmade, sweet and savoury treats.
“We also have our love heart macarons filled with vanilla bean, rosewater and strawberry in our take on strawberries and cream,” Geoffrey Michael said.
The new Belvoir Park Community Wood-fired Oven in Wodonga will be fired up on Sunday between 11am and 2pm.
Wodonga Apex Club volunteers will make light work of cooking mum lunch; people just need to bring their own pizza ingredients and eating utensils.
The Community Wood Fired Oven in Hovell Tree Park, Albury, will operate between 11am and 4pm.
The oven coordinator will help diners with their pizzas, roasts, bread and scones.
