With the host league comfortably in front in head-to-head battles and boasting former Ovens and Murray players Hayley Penny and Maggie Young, O’Connell said it will take a huge effort to take the points.
O’Connell is banking on Hume’s pace to spring a surprise.
“They will be strong and have a height advantage as a team so we will need to take advantage of our speed and get the ball down to Rosie (Dye) as quickly as we can,” O’Connell said.
“It’s a really good challenge for us.”
Reigning league best and fairest winner Sharla Sutcliffe is also expected to cause problems for the visiting league.
Hume will look to Brooke Wilson, Sophie Hanrahan and captain Christina Madden to create plenty of drive.
