The store in Wodonga Plaza will close on June 6, with those staff transitioning into 140 positions at the new site, alongside 45 new staff and those who worked at the previous 40-year-old Safeway.
Mr Boxer said shoppers could look forward to an improved bakery range with a stone-bake oven, a BWS section and brand new produce and meat departments.
“We have a new seafood case that’s a first for any stores up here,” he said.
“Everyone’s excited for the opening, it was originally thought to open around June 21.”
Mr Boxer didn’t have details on the 12 specialty stores bordering the street, but said they would be ready in July.
In the meantime, the 188 car parks are sure to fill up once the doors open.
