John Ross will conduct the Murray Conservatorium Choir during concerts in Albury on Saturday evening and Walla the following afternoon.
Ross will lead the choir’s performance of Faure’s Requiem while musical director Hugh Fullarton plays the organ accompaniment.
The program’s second half includes medleys from the musicals My Fair Lady and West Side Story as well as songs by Stephen Sondheim, with Fullarton conducting and Robyn Krowicky accompanying on piano.
Ross, the first director of the conservatorium, founded the choir in 1982 and led the group for about four years. Recently retired as director of music at St Matthew’s Church, Ross said Fullarton invited him to conduct.
“And I thought, ‘Oh, why not? This is a good chance to come back and have a little trip down memory lane,’” he said. “It’s fun, I’m having a good time. They’re in fine voice, a very big choir and they’re coming together very nicely.
“There are a couple who I believe have not missed one single concert since we formed the choir in ‘82.”
Wodonga’s Rebekah Beall (soprano) and baritone Alan Rayner, of Walla, will be the Faure soloists.
- The choir will perform at St Matthew’s Church, Albury, on Saturday at 7.30pm and Zion Lutheran Church, Walla, on Sunday at 2.30pm.
