St Pats have waited nine weeks for their first win of the AWFA senior men’s season, with Sunday’s 6-0 triumph over Wodonga Heart lifting the spirits of the proud club. 

Matthew Turner and Harry Mitchell finished with hat tricks, while Cody Cartwright was also a standout. 

Senior coach Steven Chater admitted the song was sung with plenty of gusto, but added it was the strongest team he has fielded this year.

“When you’ve been working nine weeks to try and get that, it was good to get it across the line,” he said.

“We welcomed back Andrew Stevens back from suspension and Jordan Mahoney, who has been struggling with fitness and got himself back into first grade.

“A lot of our results this year, the score hasn’t indicated as well as we’ve been going.

“We’ve had some heavy losses, but as far as matching it with teams, we’ve been able to do that, just not for long enough.”

St Pats are an incredibly young side in 2017, with no less that five debutants stepping up from the juniors ranks thus far.
