State Governor David Hurley and NSW Veterans Affairs Minister David Elliot were on hand for the early morning ceremony on Tuesday, with the soil to be displayed as part of the Hyde Park memorial, due to be completed by 2018.
Governor Hurley said the soil collection project was a key component of the memorial.
“This is a major project for NSW as part of the Anzac centenary period,” Governor Hurley said.
“Part of that is the collection of soil from every recruitment point across the state.
“Albury has a significant place in history – it has a long history of supporting the Australian Defence Force.”
