An inter-school biathlon competition will be held with invitations being sent out as far away as Alexandra.
Talented youngsters from The Scots School Albury, Albury High, Grace Christian College and Victory Lutheran College are confirmed starters.
Juniors of all abilities are able to attend while parents are encouraged to participate with their children.
The final works will be completed later this year and will cater for disabled athletes and the general public who are keen to take up a new challenge in combining two opposing sports.
The range is unique in Australia with long term plans in place to make the facility fit for national and international competition.
“It has enormous potential,” a spokesman said.
It has been backed by the Paralympic Committee, Disabled Winter Sports Australia, Australian Biathlon and Snow Sports Australia.
