Junction Support Services this week found out it had received a $2000 grant under the Big Give charity handout.
This was part of $290,000 handed out to nearly 35 projects in the Border region.
Former resident “Frankie” said the unit “helped us out heaps”.
“It gave me and the boys a place to stay in when we had no where else to go. We want to thank you for all the help you gave us.”
Junction previously received $2340 from the Albury Wodonga White Ribbon Committee for specialist training to support sexual assault survivors.
The unit is described by Junction as “a safe place in the Wodonga area” to support pregnant women and new mothers between the ages of 15 and 25 “who have been homeless, are at risk of homelessness or are in need of intensive support”.
We provide a positive environment and work with the young parents on parenting skills, life skills and help them take steps towards independent living,” a spokeswoman said.
The property is owned by Rural Housing and can house two mothers and their children, with each family having a bedroom and bathroom.
“The refurbishment will help make the house a home. We haven't got any young mums in there because it needs to be refurbished. We're incredibly grateful to 2AY and Border Trust.”
