Minnamurra Leander L81 (ET) – one of the first Six Star Royal Flesh sons offered in Australia – was bought by Wayne Munt, “MFP Speckle Park” Gunrowring; Paul Guy, “Te Mooi” Benalla; Mick Malone and Max Whitby, Kitchwin Hills at Scone and John Ellis, Hanging Rock stud.
Minnamurra’s Speckle Park herd is the biggest in the world for the Canadian breed.
“We just had to be involved, this bull is a real outlier and has the opportunity to become a breed shaper,” Mr Munt said.
“His sire is taking all before him and Leander has incredible carcase data.
“Not surprising really when you consider the carcase success the Minnamurra cattle have had in recent time.
“Speckle Park has a breed-unique trait of high intramuscular fat and they also have a consistently high dressing percentage and importantly, all of the benefits of the breed come out in the first cross.”
It’s planned to market the bulls genetics’ internationally as well as domestically.
Leander was one of 51 bulls sold on the day to average $11,400 and was 140 kg heavier than the sale bull average weight, had the highest EMA of 122 (cm), highest IMF at 6.5% and the equal highest scrotal circumference.
Mr Guy, who put the syndicate together, has a small but growing Speckle Park stud and the bull was not originally on his radar.
“Buying a bull of this calibre was not really in our plans this early in our operation but I saw him up at Minnamurra a few weeks ago and had to do something, he is just remarkable,” he said.
