The AWFA senior ladies league favourites faced their biggest test of the season, but dug deep to grind out the win.
Jessica Williams put City in front early in the opening half, before captain Haley Morris doubled the advantage before the main break.
Diamonds hit back with a goal from Jovana Bukvic, but couldn’t find an equaliser, which would have seen them become the first team to take points from City.
City coach Dan Kelly was pleased with the way his side hung in, despite not being at their best.
“We played the worst game we have all season and still came away with the win in a scrappy game,” Kelly said.
“We were missing three key players Sarah Morris, Sally Lynch and Sam McIntosh, all for different reasons, but the girls did the job to come away with the three points.
“We’re lucky with the quality we’ve got all throughout the club in each age group.”
