Puruntatameri trained with Myrtleford for the first time on Tuesday night and is set to debut against Wangaratta Rovers at W.J. Findlay Oval.
In what shapes as a huge shock to his system, the predicted minimum temperate will be 20 degrees in the Tiwi Islands on Saturday compared to minus three at Myrtleford.
“He’s been in the pipeline for a month or so now and we are finally able to get him here,” coach Leigh Corcoran said.
“We have stayed connected with the Tiwi Bombers’ coaching staff and built a bit of a relationship.
“We have been tracking Harley for a while and it’s all worked out.
“He’ll come under consideration straight away.
“Harley’s committed and we want it to work.”
Myrtleford has picked up the talented speedster on the back of Saint players Matt Dussin, Tom McDonagh, Lachie Dale, Pat Sullivan and Chad Martin playing for the Tiwi Bombers over the off-season.
“A few or our boys went up there and played and it’s good to get Harley at our club,” Corcoran said.
Puruntatameri has played mainly as a small forward/wingman in the Northern Territory and was teammates with former Wodonga Raider Ross Tungatalum.
Key position player Brady Sharp has played the last two weeks in the reserves after rupturing his ACL last season and is ready for promotion.
“He has played a couple in the reserves and his body feels good,” Corcoran said.
“He’s worked really hard to get back.”
The arrival of Puruntatameri comes only a week after star midfielder Christian Burgess announced he would be returning to the club from Coburg.
Myrtleford has slipped to seventh spot on the ladder and face a crucial match against Wangaratta Rovers on Saturday.
“We have to be consistently good no matter who the opposition is,” he said.
“We geared ourselves up for Albury and we will do the same against Wang Rovers.
“It’s a tight competition.”
