The other was more than 3kg and was trolled around the Eustace Creek area of Dartmouth Dam by David Hill. These are massive fish on any scale. And although smaller, the fish from Dartmouth has certainly opened a few eyes, especially with the Dart Cup only a week away. The pondage below Dart is still producing good fish on hard bodies and slow rolling with soft plastics.
Lake Hume is barely on the go – the reddies have all but disappeared with only a few sporadic reports mainly from around Ebden and up to Sandy Creek inlet. There’s been a few smaller trout trolled, which means the bigger fish wont be far away. Perhaps a few more frosty days will get them moving. Trout and reddies still on the chew below the wall, but don’t cast above the line.
The cray season has opened in both states and the water level is almost perfect to drop some pots and enjoy a few succulent morsels from the dinosaur age.
My family spent a week at Jindabyne for 20 or so fish to 2kg, mainly trolled on 11 and 13cm Rapalas. Unfortunately, my partner let the best fish go, still with the lure still hanging out of its gob.
News also filtered in of a 130cm Murray cod that took a liking to a big plastic in Blowering, but other reports from there aren’t too hot at the moment.
