Smith was sent off in the 77th minute of Albury’s 40-22 loss to Gundagai at Greenfield Park.
Subsequently, Smith has been charged with a high grade striking offence which has resulted in a four-game suspension.
The Thunder have until Wednesday morning to accept the penalty, or can fight the charge at the judiciary.
It was a tough day at the office for the Thunder, who fell to their third successive defeat.
Even the club’s twitter account was critical of the performance, particularly that of captain-coach Tuki Jackson in the first half.
