The Border outfit was without marquee man Archie Thompson for the final 20 minutes after he was red carded, but managed to escape with their second clean sheet in as many weeks to stay in the top four.

Murray coach James Coutts admitted Brunswick was one of the best teams he has seen in action this season and was proud of the effort shown by his side to not concede.

“We went down to 10 men for 20-25 minutes and we only had 11 players, because everyone who was on the bench played in the under 20s because we had three players drop out,” Coutts said.

“We were really up against it, so everyone had to do a job in there and the boys did.

“I can't fault them, the effort and the commitment was excellent.

“We set the bar pretty high and the standards pretty high and the boys are meeting it and taking it to the next level.

“We're certainly happy with a point, teams around us dropped points, so it was a good weekend in the end.”

Coutts said both Murray and Brunswick competed very well from start to finish. 

“I've spoken to a few neutrals about it who said it was a great game to watch, even though it was 0-0,” he said.

“They caused us trouble and we had to defend well, but even some of their players said they were surprised how far we've come.

“They started stronger and put us on the back foot a little bit, but I felt we come into the game during the second part of that first half when we stared creating some opportunities.

“We had two or three really good chances to go ahead before half-time, which we should have converted.

“The second half was pretty even, but obviously the sending off changed the game and we were on the back foot.

“There was a five-minute period where they just peppered our goal, but the boys stayed strong.”

Coutts has been very impressed with the defensive combination formed by new recruit Halil Gur and local product Sean Pye, who have gelled together really quickly. 

“There's been two clean sheets in two weeks for them, with some really good defending,” Coutts said.

“Westy (Alex West) played out of position again and did really well and Kerim (Abdulkerim Koc) made some great saves, so defensively they put us under a lot of pressure, but we stood strong and the boys back there were excellent.”
