The star striker spent the final 20 minutes of Saturday’s clash with Brunswick City on the sidelines after being issued two yellow cards.
Murray coach James Coutts said it was an unfortunate moment.
“Obviously the referee wasn't going to change his mind, but Archie has apologised about that and we move on,” Coutts said.
Thompson will now miss next weekend’s clash with Goulburn Valley Suns (GVS) at home due to suspension.
“It gives someone else an opportunity to come in and stake a claim,” Coutts said.
“I'm sure GVS will be pumped up for the game and we certainly will be, considering what happened down at their pitch earlier in the season.”
Murray sits just three points above GVS on the NPL 2 East ladder and will need to win to consolidate their position in the top four.
