Gorman’s season is over after a tear was revealed in his anterior cruciate ligament on Wednesday.
As good as it was to win one and I’m so grateful, I was really looking forward to hopefully being a part of one and being a real significant member of the side and maybe a bit of the reason when they had success.

“At the moment it’s a mixed amount of emotions,” he said.
“I’m a pretty well driven individual so a lot of things go through my mind, I’ll probably have stages where I’ll get down and disappointed and the next minute it’s like, no, you’ll be the best at coming back from this reco, you’ll be the best at your rehab and I really do strive for 2018.”
Gorman played in the second of the Pigeons’ successive premierships in 2013, but is candid on his influence.
“I was pretty much a number,” he said.
“As good as it was to win one and I’m so grateful, I was really looking forward to hopefully being a part of one and being a real significant member of the side and maybe a bit of the reason when they had success.”
Gorman has elevated himself to an elite midfielder with the Pigeons through his insatiable work ethic and goalkicking ability.
“My mindset is now as soon as I get that surgery done, the sooner I can start my rehab,” he said.
“I’ve put little goals in front of me, whether it’s the end of the footy season, end of Christmas, end of January.
“I just focus on reaching those little goals and I’m excited to get back to 2018 now.”
And his co-coach says the 25-year-old will join some of the club’s longest-serving players.
“I think he’s seen what Marcus McMillan, Xav (Leslie) and Tyler Bonat and these types of guys have done around the club for a long time,” Chris Kennedy said.
“I really picture Matty being a long-time Yarra player, he’s worked hard to get all that he’s become.”
