Not only is top spot on the line, but the two powerhouses will play for the Dave Chandler Memorial Cup – an annual event in memory of the late Wodonga Hockey Club stalwart.
Former club president and current committee member Kyle Brereton said the results have been even since the event started 14 years ago.
“Unfortunately he passed away with his battle for cancer, but, consequently, during his hockey career, whenever he played Magpies he’d bring the best out in himself,” Brereton said.
The Wodonga Club will once again be raising money for ‘Call To Arms’, an initiative driven by the Victorian Cancer Council for raising the awareness for the fight against cancer in men.
The men’s match gets under way at 1.30pm at Wodonga Hockey Centre, immediately followed by the women’s clash at 3pm.
Wodonga holds down top spot in both the men’s and women’s competitions and will have no shortage of motivation to maintain it.
In others games this weekend, Norths and CR United meet in a mid-table clash to keep in touch with the leaders of the men’s competition, while Falcons will be desperate to climb off the bottom with a win over Wombats.
Falcons will start favourites against Wombats in the women’s, while Norths can close the gap to the top two with victory over CR United.
