“I really don’t need anything, but I know lots of people that do need things, can I help the homeless?” she told her mother, Renee Crump.
So in the month leading up to her birthday last Sunday, Nikita put together 20 care packages for men, five for women and a big bag of toiletries. The latter will go to the shower at St Matthew’s Church, Albury, while the packages are bound for recipients like Carevan.
Each pack has a blanket and pillow while other items include deodorant, adhesive plasters, hand heat packs, socks, bottles of water, muesli bars, tissues, razors, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Ms Crump said family members had sent money in support while other people dropped off donations.
“Everyone’s just been really, really helpful, which has been nice for Nikita to see that she’s helping, but they’re helping her,” she said.
“She has done all of the hard work, she’s put socks together, she’s opened things, she’s packed things, she’s put pillow cases on all the 25 pillows.”
