The six-year-old from Corowa was there during a ‘come and try day’ – though he’s a regular, said mum Amanda Widdison.
“He’s been skating since he could walk, with his dad,” she said.
“We’ve been a few times to Albury; generally we go to Wodonga Skate Park as it’s a lot better.”
The lack of facilities at the David Street bowl is something Michael Panozzo wanted to highlight.
“We brought some movable obstacles to demonstrate it could be a great new park with even simple modifications,” he said.
“We had 70 people there at maximum, showing how many people are interested.”
Tim Goddard, also behind the push for a new park, said he hadn’t seen that many people at Albury in a decade.
“We would have that many all the time with a modern facility,” he said.
“Most of the older guys certainly go to Wodonga, but the younger ones stuck in Albury often go into the streets.
“The time is now – it’s been swept aside for so long – we need to take some action.”
