Mayor Kevin Mack said Monday’s fog, which delayed several flights in and out of Albury Airport, remained an environmental issue beyond the council’s control.
“I think ultimately we could invest a lot of money in mitigating the circumstances of fog,” he said. “For that level of disruption that occurs currently, is it worth it? Or do we just say, oh well, for the half a dozen times that it happens, do we put that millions and millions of dollars into other areas of council?
“Certainly we’ve had a fair share in the last couple of weeks and I know it’s of concern to people wanting to get here to there with a level of punctuality, but again their safety is important.
“We need to be considered about what is required there to make it a better airport.”
Qantas, Virgin, JETGO and Regional Express (Rex) arrivals and departures were delayed throughout the morning, with two Rex flights diverted to Wagga airport.
