Melinda and Sebastian Nedziak, who opened their first shop in Yackandandah in 2016, plan to open another store on Anderson Street in Bright this Saturday.
But Mr Nedziak said that plan had been jeopardised after a “scary” incident involving two men about 9pm on Monday.
“Two men came in; they were drunk or on drugs and were calling themselves gods and making threats,” he said.
“I tried to talk them down and walked them outside the shop and they seemed like they were leaving.
“All of a sudden they started smashing the windows.
“There were three staff and they were terrified.”
Mr Nedziak said with serious damage done to the front windows and frames, he wouldn’t know until Friday if the opening could go ahead.
“We’ve been renovating for months and poured probably $80,000 into the shop … it’s a bummer,” he said.
Bright Leading Senior Constable Scott Baldock said a 40-year-old man from Chirnside Park, an ex-local, was detained shortly after the incident.
“He was arrested in Gavan Street and taken to the Wangaratta police station – he’ll be charged with criminal damage and being drunk in a public place,” he said.
“There was another man with him, but he wasn’t the one that caused damage.”
Leading Senior Constable Scott hoped locals and visitors would help the couple regain their repair expenses once the store opened.
‘I’m looking forward to the opening – get down and support them,” he said.
