Joe Bolton was named the Sports Turf Association Australia graduate of the year on Monday night during the Australian Turfgrass Conference held on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
“I was really shocked and surprised, and had to get up and do an acceptance speech just off the cuff,” he said.
Mr Bolton, chosen as the Victorian winner last month, and the other state nominees had to complete a presentation and interview about their careers and goals.
“I knew I had done a half-good job, but there was pretty stiff competition so I wasn’t immensely confident,” he said.
Wodonga TAFE turf management teacher Mick Dove, who nominated Mr Bolton, attended the conference to hear the announcement.
“This is great recognition for Joe who has made such a positive impact on the industry as well as his colleagues and fellow students,” Mr Dove said.
Wodonga and District Turf Club general manager Tom O’Connor also congratulated Mr Bolton on his fantastic achievement.
