With the campaign due to end officially on Friday, latest figures indicate $17,850.10 has been collected in Albury and $15,133.50 in Wodonga, which includes tele-recruiting. The Red Shield door knock weekend last month raised $4.7 million around Australia.

Captain Christine Abram, of Wodonga, thanked community members for their support.

“It’s been generous donations and a wonderful response from both Wodonga and Albury,” she said.

Captain Abram said many people had also donated blankets, towels, jackets and coats for those struggling to keep warm in winter.

“Opportunities arise out of the generosity of people who are interested in community goodwill,” she said,

“It’s lovely that people can help someone else through the Salvos.”
