Alpine shire residents are least likely to be affiliated with a religion with 35.2 per cent saying the had no religion compared to 26.8 per cent in 2011.

In 2011, 27.1 per cent of Alpine residents said they were Catholic and 16.5 Anglican, but both dropped to 23.5 and 12.9 per cent respectively. 

In Wodonga, the percent of residents identifying as Catholic dropped from 28.2 per cent in 2011 to 24.7 per cent in 2011, while those with no religion rose from 22.9 per cent to 31.1 in 2016. 

The percentage of Anglicans dropped in the Greater Hume region 21.9 per cent in 2011, to 19.4 in 2016. 

People with no religion rose from 14 per cent in 2011 in Greater Hume to 21.3 per cent.

The median age age of residents rose across the board in 2016, with Towong residents boasting the oldest average age at 50. 

Benalla and Alpine recorded a median age of 49 years old.

Wodonga recorded the youngest median age in the Border of 36, up from 35 in 2011, while Albury’s rose from 37 to 39 years old.
