His comment came as the Medical Council of NSW made a statement on Wednesday following the lifting of a ban on Dr von Marburg practising.
“Dr von Marburg asked the Medical Council to review his suspension and provided new material for consideration,” the council stated.
“On 23 June 2017, the council set aside the suspension order and imposed conditions on his registration.
“Dr von Marburg will remain subject to all conditions imposed on his registration pending the outcome of an investigation by the Health Care Complaints Commission which is currently underway.”
The conditions, first applied in 2015, include Dr von Marburg not undertaking certain ear procedures, completing a course in sinus surgery annually, submitting audits to the council and providing monthly records to the council.
Dr von Marburg told The Border Mail that despite the council referring to an ongoing investigation he did not expect it to result in a hearing before the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
“It would be zilch, the chance of that happening would be zilch,” he said.
“They’re not going to waste their time and efforts on reviewing this matter, but there is a formality with all these things.”
The tribunal has a directions hearing for Dr von Marburg and the medical authorities listed for Friday, although that does not mean the matter will automatically go to a full hearing.
The case has ties to Dr von Marburg’s backing of pro-life protests at Albury’s abortion clinic.
Dr von Marburg said it was his “intention” to have the conditions imposed on him “reviewed at some suitable time”, but he could not say when that would be.
