According to BOM Observations at Albury Airport, Albury-Wodonga has received 12 millimetres of rain over the last two days with heavy showers forecast today (up to 10 millimetres), that’s already more than the entire month of June for this year.
The wet start to July has broken the June dry across the Border region, at least for a little while. Rain is forecast to continue but will ease off at the end of the week before the dry spell returns.
An average of only 11 millimetres of rain fell across Victoria in June, half as much as the previous low for that month, which was recorded in 1944.
For New South Wales, June was also the driest month on record for many locations. A dominant high was the culprit – with last month featuring a large high pressure system that sat to the north of Australia and blocked the usual cold fronts, that would bring winter rain, from crossing the state.
Rain through winter is expected to remain below average for most of NSW and Victoria.
