Oates and O’Brien have been in strong form at club level with coach Leon Higgins keen to see them in action in the TAC Cup’s final Futures Round.
“They are bottom age and have been doing well,” Higgins said.
“It’s good to give another two players a chance.”
Wangaratta’s Joe Richards has been brought back into the side after being sidelined with a groin injury while Jy Lane returns from NEAFL commitments.
Richards started the season in fine style with his forward pressure proving pivotal in several Bushranger wins.
While Western Jets are languishing on the bottom of the ladder, Higgins expects them to be difficult to beat.
“They are one of those metro clubs who play really well on their home ground at Burbank Oval,” Higgins said.
“It’s usually a tricky breeze on the water and we will have to be really mindful of how to play their ground.”
The Bushrangers, who have lost key players Charlie Spargo, Harry Jones and Nathan Oakes in recent weeks, are sitting third on the ladder with an 8-3 win-loss record.
Meanwhile, talented backman Ben Paton is in the mix for All-Australian selection after starring during the under-18 championships.
He was in Victoria Country’s best players in three of their four matches.
“Ben did really well during the national championships,” Higgins said.
“He’s had a good season.”
North Albury’s Doulton Langlands played in the Allies’ surprise win over Victoria Metro in Melbourne on Wednesday.
