The 2017 event was launched with a morning tea for volunteers at Albury Entertainment Centre on Wednesday.
Speech and drama co-ordinator Jan Skinner highlighted the importance of children taking part in an eisteddfod.
“No matter what discipline they participate in, they gain confidence and a sense of achievement and pride by performing in front of an audience,” she said.
“Most importantly they make new friends and have lots of fun.”
Nathan Lowe, 21, will compete in the open piano sections during his summer break from university musical studies in the US.
“I love actually performing, it gives you a great perspective on how you’re going,” he said.
Mr Lowe grew up in Albury before moving to Texas in 2014, where he developed both his music and his other passion, tennis.
